DOTHAN, AL – The Southeast Alabama Community Foundation (SACF) awarded grants for many Wiregrass nonprofits totaling over $65,000. Funding from these grants will go toward supporting the extensive educational and social service projects offered by 22 Wiregrass nonprofits.
Every year, SACF awards grants to nonprofit projects and programs providing services in Coffee, Dale, Geneva, Henry, and Houston counties. Nonprofits receiving 2022 SACF grants include:
Education Grants ($38,500.00)
$3,000.00 to Alabama Best Practices Center – to support costs for a team of Wiregrass teachers and school leaders to participate in Key Leaders Network and Powerful Conversations Network training
$3,000.00 to Alabama Shakespeare Festival– to provide tickets for 300 students in Coffee, Geneva, and Houston counties to participate in SchoolFest, a comprehensive student matinee program
$3,000.00 to Boys & Girls Club of Southeast Alabama – to purchase an air hockey table to attract, engage, and meet the needs of older club members
$3,000.00 to Boys & Girls Club of Wiregrass – to provide an arts and crafts program for members during the 9-week summer session to include a partnership with the Wiregrass Museum of Arts
$3,000.00 to Chrysalis, A Home for Girls – to support the costs of each Chrysalis foster care resident receiving individualized tutoring and support services through The Learning Center
$3,000.00 to Coffee County Family Services Center – to provide transportation costs for staff who teach family-centered education programs and provide resource referrals during home visits
$2,500.00 to Dothan Police Foundation – to provide the Citizen’s Firearm Safety Course for 45 citizens and purchase hearing and eye protection supplies for 30 participants
$3,000.00 to DuBoise Institute for Entrepreneurship, Inc.– to support costs of providing the Diabetes Prevention Program in Henry and Houston counties
$3,000.00 to Exchange Center for Child Abuse Protection – to provide parenting classes for 100 parents with a focus on the impacts of adverse childhood experiences and trauma
$3,000.00 to Liberty Learning Foundation– to support costs to provide the American Character Program to 150 seventh-grade students in Ozark City Schools during the 2022-23 school year
$3,000.00 to Southeast Alabama Child Advocacy Center– to purchase Erin’s Law education curriculums and facilitator training for grades K-12 to serve 15,000 students in Dale, Henry, and Houston County schools
$3,000.00 to Vivian B. Adams School – to purchase materials and classroom equipment for teaching functional life skills to adult clients with intellectual disabilities
$3,000.00 to Wiregrass Museum of Art – to provide art supplies, instructor stipends, and other costs for the First Saturday Family Day (monthly free art workshop for all ages) for 12 months
Social Services Grants ($15,000.00)
$3,000.00 to Alabama Kidney Foundation – to provide financial assistance for medication, equipment, transportation, and other basic needs of low-income kidney patients in SACF’s five counties
$3,000.00 to Alzheimer’s Resource Center, Inc. – to replenish and expand Lending Library materials that improve clients’ mental/physical being
$3,000.00 to Service Dogs Alabama – to support costs of placing a service dog with a U.S. Army veteran with PTSD diagnosis in Dale County
$3,000.00 to Sight Savers America– to provide follow-up eye care for 40 children in Coffee County who failed a vision screening test
$3,000.00 to Wiregrass Angel House – to provide crime scene cleanup for families at no charge (estimate of 3-4 sites)
Carole Bishop Lee Quality of Life Field of Interest Grants ($12,000.00)
$3,000.00 to Salvation Army – to provide food assistance for families in the service area of Geneva, Henry, and Houston counties
$3,000.00 to Wiregrass Area Food Bank– to support costs of the Brown Bag Program, providing monthly groceries to 1,620 seniors (over the age of 60) in SACF’s five counties
$3,000.00 to Wiregrass Children’s Home– to replace worn furniture in nine children’s rooms (bed, dresser, and desk)
$3,000.00 to Wiregrass Habitat for Humanity – to provide funding for housing repairs for elderly/disabled homeowners on a fixed income in Dale, Geneva, Henry, and Houston counties
