Over $133,000 Awarded in Family Wellness Grants

The Central Alabama Community Foundation (CACF), along with affiliates Autauga Area Community Foundation (AACF) and Elmore County Community Foundation (ECCF) on Wednesday, awarded $133,708 in grants to 25 Central Alabama nonprofits that provide support family, food and medical services in Autauga, Coffee, Dale, Elmore, Geneva, Henry, Houston, Lowndes, Macon, and Montgomery counties.

The grants awarded Wednesday are part of the Community Trust Grants, Technical Assistance Grants, and Field of Interest Grants Cycle that CACF manages. Nonprofits receiving 2020 Family Wellness CACF, AACF, and ECCF Grants include:

CENTRAL ALABAMA COMMUNITY FOUNDATION (CACF)
Family Grant Recipients
▪ Catholic Social Services Montgomery will receive $6,557 to provide direct aid for utility bills, food, clothing, and prescription drug assistance to families in need.
▪ Mary Ellen’s Hearth at Nellie Burge Community Center will receive $6,557 to provide at least four families with shelter and skills training to move them from crisis to stability.
▪ Ostara Initiative will receive $6,557 for its Alabama Prison Birth Project, which pairs professional doulas with incoming pregnant women at Julia Tutwiler Prison for Women.
▪ The YMCA of Greater Montgomery will receive $3,924 to provide Safety Around the Water lessons to 300 Montgomery Public Schools third graders.
Community Trust Food Grant Recipients
▪ Jesse P. Guzman Foundation will receive $5,000 to provide food and toiletry items for East Central Mental Health Center’s Kids and Teens in Jeans participants and the Tuskegee University Food Bank.
▪ MBA Community Ministries will receive $8,500 to fund food purchases to expand the reach of its food distribution network in Lowndes and Montgomery counties.
▪ Montgomery Area Food Bank will receive $5,000 to conduct Mobile Pantry deliveries in Lowndes, Macon, and Montgomery counties, distributing approximately 42,000 pounds of food to 450 families.
▪ Society of St. Andrew will receive $6,000 to distribute fresh produce in Lowndes, Macon, and Montgomery counties.
Medical Grant Recipients
▪ Child Protect will receive $7,530 to provide services to victims of alleged child abuse in Montgomery County.
▪ Impact Alabama: A Student Service Initiative will receive $5,000 to provide free FocusFirst vision screenings and case management services by Sight Savers America to children in Head Start and daycare centers in Montgomery County.
▪ Kid One Transport will receive $9,583 to provide transportation to Alabama Department of Health centers in Lowndes, Macon, and Montgomery counties for Women’s Infants and Children’s Food qualification processes as referred through the Medicaid Alabama Coordinated Health Network.
▪ Smile-A-Mile will receive $5,000 to provide for children and families affected by a pediatric cancer diagnosis in Lowndes, Macon, or Montgomery counties to attend camp.
Merle S. and Mack C. Hunt Diabetes Fund Grant Recipients
▪ Children’s of Alabama will receive $4,000 to establish a monthly diabetes clinic in Montgomery County.
▪ Service Dogs Alabama will receive $15,000 to train diabetic alert dogs to alert children and families when blood sugar levels are high or low.
▪ Southeastern Diabetes Education Services will receive $12,000 to fund 15 Montgomery area children with diabetes to attend Camp Seal Harris for diabetes education.
AUTAUGA AREA COMMUNITY FOUNDATION
Family Grant Recipients:
▪ Butterfly Bridge Children’s Advocacy Center will receive $2,500 to provide services to victims of alleged child abuse in Autauga County.
▪ Family Sunshine Center will receive $2,500 to provide counseling and supportive services to Autauga County residents who are victims of domestic violence, family violence, sexual assault, or child abuse and neglect.
Food Grant Recipients:
▪ Autauga Interfaith Care Center will receive $2,500 to provide healthy snacks and other foods for children in Autauga County to serve themselves at home.
▪ Montgomery Area Food Bank will receive $2,500 to conduct Mobile Pantry deliveries in Autauga County, distributing approximately 21,000 pounds of food to 225 families.
Medical Grant Recipients:
▪ Smile-A-Mile will receive $2,500 to provide for Autauga County children and families affected by a pediatric cancer diagnosis to attend camp.
ELMORE COUNTY COMMUNITY FOUNDATION
Family Grant Recipients:
▪ Butterfly Bridge Children’s Advocacy Center will receive $2,500 to provide services to victims of alleged child abuse in Elmore County.
▪ Family Sunshine Center will receive $2,500 to provide counseling and supportive services to Elmore County residents who are victims of domestic violence, family violence, sexual assault, or child abuse and neglect.
Food Grant Recipients:
▪ Montgomery Area Food Bank will receive $2,500 to conduct Mobile Pantry deliveries in Elmore County, distributing approximately 21,000 pounds of food to 225 families.
▪ W.E.L.C.O.M.E., Inc. will receive $2,500 to provide food and toiletries to approximately 139 families in need in west Elmore County.
Medical Grant Recipients:
▪ Medical Outreach Ministries will receive $2,500 to provide primary and specialty medical care for Elmore County residents who do not have public or private health insurance.
▪ Smile-A-Mile will receive $2,500 to provide for Elmore County children and families affected by a pediatric cancer diagnosis to attend camp.

These grants awards represent an investment of $133,708 in our community.
