Opelika, AL—11/21/2025— Local officials, community members, and media gathered today at the Lee County Emergency Management Agency (LCEMA) for the official ribbon cutting and presentation of LCEMA’s new Skydio X10 Drone, a cutting-edge unmanned aerial vehicle purchased through a grant from the Lee County Disaster Relief Fund, administered by the East Alabama Community Foundation (EACF).
The event, held at LCEMA headquarters at 908 Avenue B in Opelika, highlighted the county’s ongoing efforts to improve emergency preparedness and modernize public-safety tools. The $37,000 grant provided by the Lee County Disaster Relief Fund funded the drone, all attachments, training, and support services necessary to fully integrate the technology into LCEMA’s operations.
The Skydio X10, manufactured in the United States, adds significant aerial capability to Lee County’s emergency response efforts. The drone will be utilized to support a wide range of critical missions, including search and rescue, damage assessments, hazard monitoring, surveillance, and response operations for both natural and man-made disasters.
The addition of the Skydio X10 enhances Lee County’s readiness and ensures first responders have access to reliable, high-performance technology that supports uninterrupted emergency operations.
