The Central Alabama Community Foundation (CACF) has awarded $14,995.45 in grants through the Mary L. & Eugene C. Vann Reading Fund to support innovative reading programs across Montgomery Public Schools.
The grants were presented during the Montgomery Public School Board meeting held on October 21 at 5:00 p.m. at 632 S. Union Street, Montgomery, AL 36104.
Through the Vann Reading Fund, established by Roy D. Vann in honor of his parents, Mary L. and Eugene C. Vann, CACF awards grants each year to strengthen reading programs in Montgomery schools. These annual grants continue the Vann family’s legacy of encouraging literacy and educational excellence for students across the community.
Mary L. & Eugene C. Vann Reading Fund Grants
The following schools were awarded grants:
$5,000.00 to Dalraida Elementary School to implement sensory-based, hands-on literacy instruction to benefit students with the most significant speech, language, and literacy needs, while also indirectly supporting teachers and paraprofessionals through training and coaching.
$4,995.45 to T.S. Morris Elementary School to provide the computerized Accelerated Reader Program to 365 students across 17 classrooms.
$5,000.00 to Martin Luther King Elementary School to increase phonemic/Phonological awareness among K-3 students by implementing “Phoneme Power Play,” a comprehensive, schoolwide initiative.Total Amount Awarded: $14,995.45
