MONTGOMERY—The Central Alabama Community Foundation (CACF), along with affiliates Autauga Area Community Foundation (AACF) and Elmore County Community Foundation (ECCF) on Tuesday, awarded $141,747.50 through 26 grants to Central Alabama nonprofits that provide social services and shelter to Autauga, Coffee, Dale, Elmore, Geneva, Henry, Houston, Lowndes, Macon, and Montgomery counties. Four Montgomery elementary schools received over $18,000 in grants through the Mary L. & Eugene C. Vann Reading Fund.
The grants awarded Tuesday are part of the Community Trust Grants and Technical Assistance Grants Cycle that CACF manages. Nonprofits receiving 2020 Cultural and Community Enhancement – Shelter and Social Services Grants are:

$5,000.00 to Aid to Inmate Mothers – to support resident services for Genesis Transition Home, which provides housing and case management for women recently released from prison
$16,500.00 to Family Sunshine Center – to support the cost of an average stay for six clients utilizing shelter services
$10,900.00 to House to House Community Development – to support the renovation of a vacant home for use in the agency’s affordable housing program by providing a new HVAC system, roof, and flooring
$10,000.00 to Mary Ellen’s Hearth at Nellie Burge Community Center – to support the cost of a caseworker who will work to transition homeless families to stability
$5,800.00 to MBA Community Ministries, Inc. – to support the renovation of the kitchen in a house recently added to the Samaritan Inn Ministry, which provides shelter for families who lack financial resources for housing or commuting while a loved one is hospitalized
$12,082.00 to Rebuilding Together Central Alabama – to support the costs of critical home repairs and accessibility modifications for families who are financially insecure

$5,000.00 to Alabama Kidney Foundation – to provide kidney patients in Lowndes, Macon, and Montgomery counties with financial assistance to meet basic needs related to their illness
$7,530.00 to Child Protect, CAC – to support the costs of 12 forensic interviews and follow-up counseling for five children victimized by abuse in Montgomery County
$8,030.00 to Life on Wheels – to support efforts to connect women at risk for poor pregnancy outcomes to excellent prenatal care by purchasing evidence-based educational materials
$5,900.00 to Renascence – to support costs of a case manager who will connect clients released from prison with resources meeting developmental needs, such as job preparation and retention, addiction recovery, counseling and medical services, and reconciliation with family
$8,000.00 to Southeastern Diabetes Education Services – to provide 10 scholarships for children with diabetes in Lowndes, Macon, and Montgomery counties to attend Camp Seale Harris, where they will receive comprehensive diabetes education services
$5,000.00 to Triumph Services – to support costs of individualized job preparation, life skills coaching, and counseling to prepare young adults with developmental disabilities to live and work independently

$2,500 to Mid-Alabama Coalition for the Homeless – to contract with a consultant for development of a strategic plan
$2,500 to The Noah Foundation – to contract with a consultant to redesign the websites of the Foundation and its New Hope Academy
$2,500 to Triumph Services – to purchase four all-in-one printers/scanners/copiers and monthly internet service to support staff while they work remotely

$4,000 to Carver Elementary School – to purchase four laptops for student testing, non-fiction reading materials, and student incentives in support of its Accelerated Reader program for K-5 grade students
$4,947.50 to Chisholm Elementary School – to purchase headphones and Finding Evidence Comprehension Kits to improve comprehension reading skills through classroom literacy centers and the online library and reaching 479 students in K-5 grades
$5,000 to E.D. Nixon Elementary School – to purchase digital electronic books that provide embedded learning tools to support struggling readers and English Language Learners and will be utilized by 460 students in K-5 classrooms
$5,000 to Highland Gardens Elementary School – to purchase chromebooks, cameras, microphones, and ELA manipulatives to provide intense intervention to close gaps in phonics learning with second grade students
