MONTGOMERY – The Central Alabama Community Foundation (CACF) on Thursday announced it has awarded $233,800 in scholarships to 154 students in the River Region and Wiregrass.
Each year, CACF scholarship donors provide financial gifts to students to help with postsecondary education expenses. Scholarships vary in amounts ranging from $500 to $5,000 and some may be renewed. Qualifying criteria varies broadly by scholarship fund with the bulk of funds targeting graduating seniors. Scholarship awards were presented to students at school honors and awards days.
“We are grateful to the individuals and organizations that trusted CACF to manage their scholarship funds,” CACF President Burton Ward said. “These scholarship gifts are an important investment in the lives of students who live in the River Region and the Wiregrass.”
Individuals or organizations can establish scholarship funds with CACF to support students in the community. When scholarship funds are entrusted to CACF, foundation staff manage and invest the funds to ensure long-term growth while providing scholarship funds over time. Additionally, staff manage scholarship application requests and work with each donor to award the scholarship.
Through its more than 230 funds, CACF addresses a wide variety of concerns, supporting projects and programs in education, health, human services, cultural arts, recreation, historic preservation and other civic concerns. Each year, the foundation distributes more than $5 million through hundreds of grants and scholarships.
CACF was founded in 1987 and has grown to hold more than $65 million in charitable assets while distributing more than $55 million to organizations that serve the community. CACF serves several counties including Autauga, Coffee, Cullman, Dale, Elmore, Geneva, Henry, Houston, Lowndes, Macon and Montgomery.
