MONTGOMERY, AL – The Central Alabama Community Foundation (CACF) awarded $132,756.00 in grants to 18 River Region nonprofits that support family, wellness, and education initiatives in Montgomery, Autauga, and Elmore counties. The Education Grants awarded are part of the Family Wellness and Education Grant Cycle that CACF manages. Funds from these grants will go directly toward assisting many within these communities.
Listed below are the nonprofit organizations receiving grants from CACF and its two affiliates, Autauga Area Community Foundation and Elmore County Community Foundation, at the August 6 grant ceremony.
Central Alabama Community Foundation ($91,471.00)
Education Grants ($84,971.00)
$6,000.00 to Brantwood Children’s Home – to purchase the online curriculum Gradpoint for use with Brantwood’s on-site educational program that allows its children to learn in a more accommodating environment
$10,411.00 to Churchill Academy Inc. – to support the costs of establishing a STEM lab, where students will apply classroom knowledge to real-life tasks and simulated activities
$7,010.00 to First Choice Women’s Medical Center – to support the costs of providing evidence-based, sexual risk avoidance education for two middle schools using the REAL Essentials curriculum, which provides tools to help students build healthier relationships and make intentional choices
$5,000.00 to Gateway Baptist Church – to provide the weekly meal for students and their families participating in the HOPES After School Tutoring Program that serves students referred by Capitol Heights Middle School administrators
$12,500.00 to Girl Scouts of Southern Alabama – to provide membership fees for 500 girls in Lowndes, Macon, and Montgomery counties to participate in school-based leadership programming
$6,050.00 to Girls on the Run of the River Region – to provide the direct costs of implementing two teams serving students at Montgomery County Title I schools with a program that includes a curriculum blending physical activity with life skill development and culminates in completing a celebratory 5K run at the end of both seasons
$16,000.00 to Hope Inspired Ministries – to support the costs of HIM’s Lowndes County site through providing a portion of the career coach’s salary and gasoline costs for one van route addressing students’ transportation barriers
$12,000.00 to That’s My Child – to provide scholarships for 40 students to participate in the Teen to Work Program that includes a curriculum teaching soft and hard skills needed to enter the workforce, a training course at That’s My Dog Jr. restaurant and a final phase of connecting students to employers
$10,000.00 to Women of Refined Gold – to provide training and support for at least 12 beauty salons’ staff to identify signs of domestic violence, facilitate discussion with clients, and link clients to resources
Technical Assistance Grant ($1,500.00)
$1,500.00 to Women of Refined Gold – to support consultant costs for the creation of a fund development strategy
Give Smart Montgomery Grant ($5,000.00)
$5,000.00 to Hope Inspired Ministries – to provide housing assistance for panhandlers seeking employment with a goal of serving six to eight HIM students
Autauga Area Community Foundation ($17,900.00)

$3,000.00 to Alabama PALS – to support the costs of implementing the Alabama Clean Campus Program in Autauga County schools
$3,000.00 to Alabama Wildlife Federation – to provide for students attending Autauga County schools to participate at no cost in Lanark Field Days trips to the Alabama Nature Center or the school-based Nature on Wheels
$3,000.00 to Girls on the Run Serving the River Region – to support the costs of implementing one team serving students at an Autauga County Title I school
$3,000.00 to Liberty Learning Foundation, Inc. – to support the costs of providing the civic engagement curriculum, Hands on Liberty, and the Libby Liberty Celebration Event for 33 Autauga County Schools second-grade classrooms
$2,900.00 to Montgomery Education Foundation – to support the costs of Starbase 2.0, a 10-week afterschool program focusing on STEM activities with mentorship for sixth and seventh graders in Autauga Public Schools
$3,000.00 to The Pivot Path – to provide for 10 adult learners to attend a minimum of four weeks of classes, test for their GEDs, and receive post-GED employability services

$3,000.00 to Coosa RiverKeeper, Inc. – to support the costs of the Coosa River Environmental Education for Kids (CREEK) Program, which includes the Free Fly Fishing Clinic in October, the STREAM Workshop in November, and in-school presentations during the year
$3,000.00 to Liberty Learning Foundation, Inc. – to support the costs of providing the civic engagement curriculum, Hands on Liberty, and the Libby Liberty Celebration Event for 35 Elmore County Public Schools second-grade classrooms
