MONTGOMERY, AL – The Central Alabama Community Foundation (CACF) awarded $123,790.00 in grants to 17 River Region nonprofits that support education initiatives in Montgomery, Lowndes, Macon, Autauga and Elmore counties. The Education Grants being awarded are part of the Family Wellness and Education Grant Cycle that CACF manages. Funds from these grants will go directly toward assisting many within these communities.
Listed below are the nonprofit organizations that received grants from CACF and its two affiliates, Autauga Area Community Foundation and Elmore County Community Foundation, at the August 4 grant ceremony.
Central Alabama Community Foundation ($86,298.00)
$10,000.00 to Boys & Girls Clubs of the River Region to purchase 20 computers to replace outdated equipment in the Learning Centers of the Chisholm Club and West End Club
$12,500.00 to Empowering Communities Helping Ourselves to support the costs of ECHO’s afterschool youth program, including teaching assistants’ salaries, healthy snacks, and cooking class supplies, for 20 weeks of the 40-week program
$10,000.00 to Gateway Baptist Church to support the costs of Helping Our Public Education System (HOPES) After School Tutoring Program, which serves Capitol Heights Middle School students and their families, including the program coordination and tutoring supplies
$15,000.00 to Hope Inspired Ministries to support the cost of a full-time career coach for the Lowndes County Campus, who provides case management services for students to address barriers to employment and assist with job placements
$10,700.00 to the Ingram State Technical College Foundation to provide 30 qualified students with industry certification testing and 19 graduating students with tools and equipment needed to begin work following their release from prison
$7,898.00 to Montgomery Christian School to purchase two Promethean boards for use in the hands-on Math in Motion curriculum for third through fifth grades
$20,200.00 to Montgomery Education Foundation to support the costs of the STARBASE 1.0 and 2.0 STEM programs serving 20 elementary and two middle schools within the Montgomery Public Schools District, including the purchase of robotic, coding, and rocketry equipment; 12 iPads; and payment of $3,000 in teacher stipends
Autauga Area Community Foundation ($12,400.00)
$2,500.00 to Alabama Wildlife Federation to send 140 Autaugaville School students for a full-day field trip featuring the Nature on Wheels and Lanark Field Day programs
$2,500.00 to Autauga County Family Support Center to purchase 250 workbooks for child sexual abuse prevention training
$2,500.00 to Autauga-Prattville Public Library to purchase 125 books to update the Library’s adult large print section
$2,500.00 to Liberty Learning Foundation, Inc. to support the costs of providing the civic engagement curriculum, Hands on Liberty, for nine classrooms at Daniel Pratt Elementary School
$2,500.00 to Montgomery Education Foundation to purchase equipment for STARBASE 2.0, a 10-week afterschool program serving five Autauga County middle schools that provides mentors from Maxwell Air Force Base and features varied STEM, robotics, and engineering lessons
Elmore County Community Foundation ($17,497.00)
$2,497.00 to Alabama Cooperative Extension System – Elmore County to expand its Learning Garden with new raised bed teaching gardens and vertical gardening fencing
$2,500.00 to Alabama Wildlife Federation to send 178 sixth-grade students to the Elmore County Water Festival
$2,500.00 to Elmore County Family Resource Center to support the costs of the Skill Up Program, which provides GED courses, vocational training, and other essential skill classes to improve workforce development outcomes in Elmore County
$2,500.00 to the Kelly Fitzpatrick Memorial Gallery to provide Camp Kelly’s art workshops in collaboration with 21st Century Learning Center summer programs at Eclectic Elementary, Holtville Elementary, and Wetumpka Middle schools
$2,500.00 to the Learning Tree to support its Tallassee Residential School serving children with autism by purchasing educational materials, software updates, and technical communication device upgrades for children
$2,500.00 to Liberty Learning Foundation to support the costs of providing a 10-week civics education curriculum, Hands on Liberty, for 34 second-grade classes in Elmore County schools

$2,500.00 to Montgomery Education Foundation to create a strategic plan to guide MEF in its next decade of work
